Even if the guy drops his complaints, the case can still proceed. Wontumi refused to honor police invitation to answer assault case and was issued arrest warrant. That is the case now.

In civil cases, the plaintiff can withdraw the case against the respondent. It is the PLAINTIFF V. DEFENDANT. This Wontumi case is a CRIMINAL CASE. Slapping a public officer ( or any other person) is a crime against the state. In the proper legal parlance, stopping somebody is called BATTERY and it is a criminal offence.
Article 88(3) QUOTED BELOW MAKES IT CLEAR:
'The Attorney-General shall be responsible for the initiation and conduct of all prosecutions of criminal offences' Wontumi slapping the MP is a criminal offence. The Police has no power to withdraw the case even if the MP has written to the them that he wishes the case to be withdrawn.The Police has no prosecutional jurisdiction in this matter. The Police has to pass on the case to the Attorney-Genaral including the the letter of intention of the MP to withdraw the case to the AG. What would have happened if the MP collapsed and died? This would have been a MURDER/MANSLAUGHTER CASE. Could the murder case be widrawn by the relatives of the deceased MP because they are all staunch members of the opposition NPP?. In this 2016 election year where all criminals like Wontumi are bent on derailing the process and cause mayhem, the Attorney-General and the Courts should be seen to be dispensing justice as enshrined in our constitution. This is the only language criminals understand!

As one Wontumi supporter said on radio, he has been disciplined by the Chairman. Well, well, Ghanaians can judge for themselves if the party of dog eat dog people is the party to be voted into government. If an MP can be slapped freely then we can imagine how many slaps and acid the rest of us will receive if such a party is in charge of the security services.
