Mason jailed 20 years for defilement

A 25 year old mason was on Tuesday sentenced to 20 years imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court for having sex with a five–year- old girl at Amamole, near Amasaman.

Shaibu Eliasu, who was facing a charge of defilement pleaded not guilty.

The Court presided over by Mrs Rita Agyemang Budu, however, found Eliasu aka Alhaji, guilty and convicted him accordingly.

Detective Inspector Kofi Atimbire told the Court that the complainant is the mother of the victim, who together with the victim and Eliasu reside in the same neighbourhood at Amamole.

On April 18, last year, the complainant went to plait her hair together with the victim and while in the process, she asked the victim to go and call her father from an adjacent house where Eliasu resides.

Prosecution said on seeing the victim, Eliasu called and gave her GH?20.00 to buy sachet water for him.

He said when the victim returned with the water, Eliasu lured her into his room and had sexual intercourse with her and warned her not to tell anyone else she would die.

A week later, prosecution said the complainant saw some yellowish fluids in the pant of the victim and questioned her.

The victim then informed her mother that it was Eliasu who defiled her.

The complainant with the help of some neighbours apprehended Eliasu and handed him over to the police at Amasaman who issued a medical report to the victim.

The matter was however transferred to the Domestic Violence and Victim’s Support Unit in Tesano. Eliasu, however, denied the offence.
