The headmistress of Mfantsiman Girls’ Senior High School in the Central Region has called on government to aid it fight an invasion of its student dormitories bedbugs.

Mrs Agnes Letitia Hawkson made the call on Saturday March 25 at the school’s 57th speech and prize-giving day at Saltpond in the Central Region, Accra News’ Adu Gyamfi Marfo has reported.

According to her, the infestation began a year ago and the school has committed a lot of its resources to fumigate the dormitories and other parts of the school, but the situation persists.

With the school’s finances stretched due to the high costs of year-long spraying, Mrs Hawkson called on the government to intervene and support the school to fumigate its surroundings and get rid of the blood-sucking insects whose invasion, she said, had had an effect on academic activities and performance of students.

The headmistress also appealed to the school’s Parent Teacher Association (PTA) to help put up more bungalows to accommodate staff of the school, some of whom live outside campus, to facilitate teaching.

Present at the event were Education Minister Matthew Opoku Prempeh and Second Lady Samira Bawumia, an alumna of the school.
