Governance expert and anti-corruption crusader, David Agbey says the budget presented by the Ministry for Special Development Initiatives is outrageous, adding that the creation of a Ministry for Common Sense would have been more appropriate.
The Minister for Special Development Initiatives, Madam Hawa Koomson, presented a total budget of GH¢71,059,970.00 for approval by parliament for its operations 2018.
Per the breakdown of the ministry’s 2018 projected expenditure, GH¢800,000 of the budget which has been approved by Parliament will be used for the development of a website for the Ministry.
The Special Development Initiatives Minister Mavis Hawa Koomson has however made a U-turn suggesting that the reports that her Ministry plans to spend GH¢800k for the development of a website was an error.
In an interview with Kaakyire Ofori Ayim on Atinka AM Drive, Mr Agbey explained that the Ministry for Special Development Initiatives was supposed to develop special initiatives just like its name suggests.
According to him, the breakdown of the ministry’s 2018 projected expenditure shows otherwise.
"Per the breakdown of the ministry’s 2018 projected expenditure, although the President has created a ministry, the creation of a ministry of common sense would have been more appropriate than the creation of a Special Development Initiatives ministry”, he reiterated.
