More labour unions have lined up industrial actions mostly demonstrations to demand the reinstatement of the Managing Director (MD) of the Electricity Company of Ghana, Reverend William Hutton-Mensah.

The engineer, who has been in office for the past three years but on leave, was asked to report to the Minister of Energy and Petroleum for reassignment.

His position has been handed over to Robert Dwamena, the Director of Procurements.

On Tuesday, November 25, the Public Utilities Workers Union served notice members will hit the streets if the president does not reinstate Ing. Hutton-Mensah.

General Secretary of the Union Ato Bondzie Quaye said ECG had battled ‘Acting Managers’ for so long.

Ing. Hutton-Mensah is, therefore, the first, in many years, to be substantive MD, Mr Ato Bondzie said.

He is young and very serious at work, he added.

He warned that if by next week President John Mahama does not rescind his decision, they will hit the streets.

Meanwhile, Senior Staff Association of the Danyame District of the Company has embarked upon a day’s demonstration for the reinstatement of their boss.

Among the placards wielded read: “Even Tweaa DCE is back @ Office. We want our MD back” and “We need him”.

“We want the government to know that if it is not because of inefficiency, why should he sack our MD?” asked Bismark Adomah, Chairman of the Association.

“If he is sacking, the first person to sack is VRA boss and not ECG boss because the main problem is one of generation not distribution.”
