I'm not surprised at all that drug trafficking is on the rise in Ghana. So far as we have FOOLISH POLITICAL PARTY FOLLOWERS who will politicize CRIMINAL ACTVITIES, this problem will linger. There are many INTELLIGENT AND SMART CRIMINALS, far smarter than most of our POLITICIANS, who have gone into politics or associate themselves with politicians to facilitate their CRIMINAL ACTIVITIES. As a result, they have access to privileges that under normal circumstance, they would not have to carry on their evil deeds; thus, tarnishing the image of the whole nation. My advice to FOOLISH AND MOST OFTEN USELESS POLITICAL PARTY FOLLOWERS is that, they must STOP COVERING CRIMINALS IN POLITICS. DRUG TRAFFICKING is not part of politics, and nothing for a decent person to be proud of. MISUSING OF STATE FUNDS is a criminal act. BRIBBERY is a criminal act. IT IS FOOLISH TO COMPARE A CRIME THAT HAS GONE UNPUNISHED WITH ANOTHER ONE THAT HAS JUST BEEN COMMITED TO JUSTIFY IT. Most FOOLISH POLITICAL PARTY FOLLOWERS are fond of doing this. If Ms Ametefeh has been allegedly doing such manoeuvres since 2009 goodness knows how many of such people have used this method just because of their status in society as security around such people have been relaxed. No one can be trusted when it comes to such issues any more as our security is at stake. We should not even allow the VVIP section security to be relaxed so that unscrupulous people take advantage of such freedom afforded to them in the wake of this saga".

Kindly join me to let our honoured MPs be aware that the cocaine issue is purely criminal. Therefore they shd leave that to the bodies in charge and concentrate on things that affect the general population such as the economy, armed robbery, low level of education, conflicts, health etc . They have very many serious issues to discuss rather than making jokes and mockery of this cocaine matter. I am highly disappointed by the way our august MPs waste time on issues that are rather trivial. After a few days they throw away this irrelevant case and pick up another useless case and spend all the precious time on. We have not sent them there to take over the work of the institutions that are to handle such cases. None of them campaigned that they will argue vehemently on cocaine but rather they all campaigned and promised pesce, development, good education, good health, abundant food etc What are we getting from them. NPP and NDC are busy blaming each other and we are just suffering.

I expected both majority and minority to team up as they do when issues of their salaries and allowances are on the floor, to condemn the smuggling of cocaine through Ghana rather than pointing fingers at each other with unsubstantiated statements. The political divide must not necessarily oppose each other when the truth is very clear. Like parents, teachers, religious leaders, MPs must watch their statements and don't scandalise the young ones by their utterances. I don't see any seriousness in most contributions in the house. Let's learn from our developed partners.

Ghanaians should be happy when things like cocaine our taken out of the country.
How many ghanaians will that amount cocaine do to them. Ghanaians are thanking God for cocaine not been produced in ghana.
If this MP or whatever really have brains he would havw been asking our security officers how and why did they allow Cocaine into the country.
Taking cocaine out of ghana when ghanaians dont make cocaine is not a parliament job, its a national security issue.

Its a shame to think of asking MPs to do a national job. MPs are suppose to be only supporting those who elected him or her not the nation. Its the duty of government on national security issues.

Ghana's opposition has called for a parliamentary inquiry into allegations that a suspected cocaine trafficker had access to the presidential lounge at the country's main airport.

The alleged trafficker was arrested in the UK, while three officials have been charged in Ghana.

The case has gripped Ghanaians, as the opposition and governing party trade accusations of drug-dealing.

West Africa is a major transit-point for smuggling cocaine to Europe.

The BBC's Sammy Darko in Accra says the alleged cocaine bust has increasingly assumed a political dimension.
Presidential denial

On Tuesday, Dominic Nitiwul - a senior member of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) - appeared in parliament with three bags of rice, weighing around 13kg (28lbs).

Mr Nitiwul questioned how a similar amount of cocaine could have evaded customs and security officials at Accra's Kotoka International Airport to reach London's Heathrow Airport where the alleged trafficker, Nayele Ametefe, was arrested on 9 November.

The government has denied any involvement in what the local media has dubbed "the cocaine scandal".

President John Mahama has also strongly denied reports that Ms Ametefe was linked to his family.

Three foreign affairs officials have been charged with aiding and abetting Ms Ametefe by allegedly letting her use the airport's "VVIP lounge", a reference to the presidential lounge, our correspondent says.

They have been remanded in custody.

Another nine people, including three Lebanese and an Indian national, were arrested on Tuesday in connection with the case, our reporter says.

Mr Nitiwul kept up pressure on the government on Wednesday by calling for a bipartisan parliamentary committee to investigate the conduct of officials.

"How did it become possible for the [alleged] cocaine lady to use the VVIP lounge of Kotoka International Airport? By what arrangement was she [allegedly] able to get the cocaine into the plane without being detected by all the security operatives at the airport?" Mr Nitiwul said, at a press conference.

West Africa has emerged as a busy route for drugs from Latin America and Asia to Europe, with cartels taking advantage of the region's poverty and weak border controls.

In June 2013, the ex-security chief at the airport, Solomon Adelaquaye, was charged in the US with conspiring to smuggle Afghan heroin to New York.

He was arrested along with two Nigerians and a Colombian following a joint US-Ghanaian investigation, officials said at the time.
