Mornah quizzes NPP: Is Freddie Blay's Chairmanship an attempt to cover up?

General Secretary of the People’s National Convention, Bernard Mornah is wondering why the first vice chairperson of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay is acting as the National Chairman when he is still under investigations.

The First National Vice Chairman and the party’s National Treasurer, Abankwa Yeboah have been accused of operating a secret NPP account at Ecobank against the party’s laid down procedures by an NPP Youth activist, Baah Acheamfour.

Baah Acheamfour subsequently lodged a complaint at the Criminal Investigations Department, CID even though the two executives denied the allegation.

Referring to the ECOBANK/NPP controversies, Mr Mornah said during a panel discussion on Radio Gold’s "Alhaji and Alhaji" that a party that believes in rule of law should not have appointed Mr Freddie Blay as the acting Chairman knowing he was under investigation.

“…the vice chairman and the national treasurer are under investigations and while they are under investigations, the first vice chairman had the capacity to organise a steering committee meeting which deposed of the national chairman…this is a party that come to say we believe in rule of law and all that…and so you have become the acting national chairman; what happens to the investigations into the ECOBANK scandal. Is it an attempt to cover up some rot?” he queried.

Bernard Mornah, reflecting on these controversies, also wondered the number of bank accounts the NPP will be opening if they are given the mandate to rule the country.

“This is a party in opposition who cannot handle finances and it is opening accounts that are not sanctioned by the party’s constitution…are we not running into danger; if we allow this party to be given the mandate will they not open accounts in the name of Ghana without the appropriate signatories to the account?" he rhetorically asked.
