General Secretary of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Agyepong has said his opposite number in the governing party cannot ceaselessly disrespect his other colleagues by continuously snubbing them at important events.

Johnson Asiedu Nketia, also known as General Mosquito failed to turn up for a political discussion programme for General Secretaries on Joy FM’s newsfile programme.

Apart from Kwabena Agyepong, General Secretaries of the CPP and PPP, who were at the station, and billed to appear with Asiedu Nketia, boycotted the programme en masse, over the NDC General Secretary’s failure to show up.

Mr Agyepong, Ivor Greenstreet of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) and Kofi Asamoah Siaw of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) said they felt disrespected by Asiedu Nketia’s absence.

Mr Nketia sent his Deputy to represent him on the programme, but the three others felt slighted by that.

They were billed to discuss proposals for electoral reforms put forward by the country’s elections governing body, the Electoral Commission (EC).

Attempts by the host of the programme, Samson Lardy Anyenini and Producer Sedem Ofori, to convince the three General Secretaries to stay for the programme, yielded no fruits.

The station, for the entire three-hour period of the programme, was forced to play music due to the boycott.

"Asiedu Nketia, in his capacity as the CEO of the ruling party has a lot to answer to Ghanaians so this programme certainly cannot go on without him", Mr Agyepong said in protest, according to a statement signed by his Media Liaison Justice Abeiku Newton-Offei.

"Asiedu-Nketiah, on three previous occasions, had failed to show up at IEA-organised meetings for General Secretaries of political parties," adding that: "Today’s episode makes it the third time he has engaged in such unfortunate snub".

Mr. Agyepong, however, expressed his readiness to make himself available, any day, for the programme when Asiedu Nketia makes himself available, in order to have a meaningful debate.

Asiedu Nketia has been the butt of jokes on social media after pictures of him surfaced wearing his wife’s fur coat in Germany during a recent trip by President John Mahama to the European country for a two-day state visit.

He has been caricatured and mocked at in many ways following the fashion faux pas.

The NDC General Secretary has, however, shrugged off the derision of him on social media and on various radio stations.

He laughed off the mockery saying: "Brain work goes on at state visits…we don’t go on state visits for fashion shows."

"I’m glad they are not accusing me of stealing state funds for shopping in Germany, but rather accusing me of wearing my wife’s fur coat in Germany to keep me warm," he said.

According to him, "No German told me the fur coat was for women so those Ghanaians who are experts at telling male winter coats from feminine ones should go on talking."
