Scores of Muslims in Kumasi on Saturday recited verses in the Holy Quran and prayed fervently for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the 2012 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and other petitioners challenging the results of the 2012 presidential poll at the Supreme Court.

The Muslim clerics, who were drawn from various parts of Kumasi, gathered at a particular place in the Manhyia South Constituency to pray fervently to Allah.

The religious affair, organized by ‘Zongo 4 Nana and Bawumia,’ a grouping in the NPP, the largest opposition political party in the country, started at 10am and lasted for about four hours.

The recital of the Holy Quran and prayer session would be repeated at various Mosques in the city henceforth.

The Muslims would also pray to Allah to preserve Ghana’s peace to ensure effective development.

Briefing DAILY GUIDE, Chairman of ‘Zongo 4 Nana and Bawumia,’ Zakari Seidu said the Holy Quran recitals and prayer session were organized to strengthen the petitioners.

The religious affair was also intended to pray to Allah to strengthen the justices of the Supreme Court to deliver a credible ruling on the presidential election petition without fear or favour for the peace of the country to be sustained, he remarked.

He said prior to the start of the hearing of the presidential election petition, his group, whose membership exceeds 1,500, sought approval from Dr. Bawumia to pray for the petitioners.

Formed about two years ago, ‘Zongo for Nana and Bawumia’s main objective is to preach the good works and vision of the NPP in order to win more souls for the NPP in the Zongo communities of the country.

The group, which is made up of vibrant youth, intends to work hard to dispel the erroneous impression that all the Zongo communities are made up of National Democratic Congress (NDC) members.

Andy Owusu, National Coordinator, Free Education Now Prayer Group, who was a special guest at the event, tasked all NPP members, irrespective of their religious background, to intensify prayers for the petitioners.

He commended the ‘Zongo 4 Nana and Bawumia’ for their commendable action.

Mr. Owusu said Nana Akufo Addo, as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ghana, would work assiduously to reduce poverty in the Zongo communities.

Kassim Musah, Coordinator, ‘Zongo 4 Nana and Bawumia,’ disclosed that special prayers would be said on 29th August, 2013 for Allah to embolden the Supreme Court justices to promote peace.

Fatau Issah, a member of the group, said the citizenry could testify to the numerous social intervention programmes that the previous Kufour administration undertook to enhance the country’s economy.

He was optimistic Nana Akufo Addo and his running mate, Dr. Bawumia would take Ghanaians to the Promise Land if they lead the country.
