The challenge thrown at Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia by Member of Parliament (MP) for Bolgatanga Central constituency Isaac Adongo to a debate on the economy is not about who is super brilliant in economics but about the credibility of the figures and data churned out by the Vice President, the lawmaker has explained.

Speaking at a forum organised by the Coalition for Restoration in Accra last week, The NDC MP threw an invitation to the Vice President to a debate and pledged to resign from politics forever if Dr. Bawumia is able to defend government’s picture of the economy as presented at a Town Hall meeting.

This call by Mr Adongo has however been treated with some contempt by members of the governing New Patriotic Party(NPP) who have described the invitation as trivial and a mismatch for the Bolgatanga Central MP to face-off the Vice President.

However, Mr. Adongo has explained that his invitation to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is not meant to show who is brainy in economics but rather to put to strict scrutiny the economic data thrown out by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

In an interview on Social Media Platform Loud Silence Media hosted by Kelvin Taylor and monitored by MyNewsGh.com, Isaac Adongo said “The debate is not about who is better at economics, this is to bring some credibility to our political discourse. To make sure that the people [when] they speak, they know they will be held to account to speak the truth”.

In a response to some persons who have proposed to step in for the Vice President in the proposed debate, he stated that “So all the people who are parading around wanting to debate me, they are not the people who went to Kumasi Townhall meeting to churn out the lies. They are not the people who at every least opportunity deceive the people of Ghana. They are not the people who in the lead up to the 2016 election said they had the magic wand. They are also not the people [that] in April 2019 mounted a Townhall meeting that is supposed to be a program for the economic management team was used to churn out very spurious economic theories. That man is the one I want to meet”.
