The eastern regional chairman of the National Democratic Congress has denied claims that he has dared former President John Mahama to mention names of members of the functional executive committee who took money to run the 2016 campaign but diverted it.
Bismark Tawiah Boateng in a statement said the writer of the story misrepresented him by twisting the translation of the words from twi to English.
Some online news portals carried a story headlined “NDC CHAIRMAN DARES PRESIDENT MAHAMA " claiming Mr. Tawiah Boateng is daring the ex-president to come out with names of persons he gave money to for the campaign.
But the regional chairman says he rather welcomed the decision by the president.
Below is the full statement by the Eastern regional chairman
I Have Not Dared President Mahama
I have become aware of a story circulating on adomonline, GhanaWeb and other online portals with a headline suggesting I am daring President John Dramani Mahama, our beloved former President.
I wish to place on record and beyond any doubt that my utmost respect for President Mahama will not make the said story tenable. This story is a case of twisted translation of an interview granted in 'Twi' to English.
In that interview, the host of the show sought to know from me what I make of newspaper claims that our beloved former president Mahama will soon drop names of functional executive’s committee members whom he gave money to for the 2016 campaign but ended up in individual pockets. In my response I WELCOMED that decision because I felt that would put a stop to the several accusations that some executives of the party have embezzled funds meant to run the campaign. To my utmost suprise, I woke up this morning to this headline: NDC CHAIRMAN DARES PRESIDENT MAHAMA.
I find it strange that the author of the story couldn't differentiate between WELCOMING a decision and DARING same.
I wish to once again place on record that I have not dared President Mahama as it is being suggested.
Bismark Tawia Boateng
