The official campaign posters of the Cape Coast South Member of Parliament (MP) George Kweku Ricketts-Hagan are out.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) legislator has officially written to inform his party’s national executives of his intention to contest in the race.
His decision follows an earlier announcement by the party’s General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia that flag bearer hopefuls can begin their campaigns but must first write to seek permission from the national executives.
Kweku Ricketts-Hagan in December 2017 informed his colleague MPs of his interest to be the President of Ghana on NDC’s ticket.
He explained that he sees himself as a better candidate to lead the NDC into victory in 2020.
“I have taken almost one year, since we lost the elections to do some retrospection of what has gone wrong with our dear party and the possibilities for the future, and how we can reset and reposition our party strongly and strategically to stand a chance of winning power again,” he told his colleague MPs.
"I have also done my own introspection and soul searching, and my readiness to lead our great party. And I can confidently say to you that I am ready to lead our great party to victory, if I am given the opportunity,” he added.
Mr. Ricketts-Hagan will be competing with Dr. Ekwow Spio Garbrah, Prof Joshua Alabi, Sylvester Mensah, Goosie Tandoh and former President John Mahama.
