NDC Members of Parliament demonstrated unity with a ‘grand entry’ into the premises of the Accra International Conference Center Thursday morning to have a last glimpse of one of their dearest comrades, former Vice President Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur before he is finally laid to rest.

Led by the Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, the MPs walked into the foyer to file past the mortal remains of the late Vice President and to pay their last respects.

Deputy Minority Leader, James Avedzi, Alhassan Suhuyini, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, Adam Mutawakilu and Inusah Fuseini were also part of the group.

They paid tribute to the fallen hero, touting his numerous qualities including his humility and integrity and know-how.

“He is a very unassuming professional, when you get close to him, you will know the level of knowledge he has in terms of economic and finance, he has left a vacuum,” James Klutse Avedzi said.

Haruna Iddrisu also described him as a man who served Ghana till his exit and one whose integrity was intact and never questioned.

The former statesman whose unfortunate demise remains a shock to many was an astute member of the National Democratic Congress and was mostly described as the ‘gentleman among gentlemen’.

A brief ceremony is being held in his honour to give friends, colleagues and members of the public, an opportunity to see the remains of the late Veep ahead of the final funeral rites scheduled for Friday July 27.

Several dignitaries from the various political divides have graced the event to have a final glimpse of their colleague and friend and to pay their respects.

Mr Amissah-Arthur, who was Vice President of Ghana from August 2012 to January, 2017, died on Friday, June 29 after he collapsed at the Air Force Gym at Burma Camp.

He was rushed to the 37 Military Hospital but could not survive. He was 69.
