The Ashanti Regional Police Command has vowed to arrest and arraign before court persons who were involved in Thursday’s clash between supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) at Alabar, a suburb of Kumasi over the management of a lorry terminal.
Over 20 armed police officers on March 2 took over the Aboabo bus station at Alabar in Kumasi after a brawl ensued between the two groups over ownership of the facility.
Six persons sustained serious machete wounds following the clash between the two factions, who are from the Abudu and Andani lineage.
The Regional Commander DCOP Ken Yeboah has said initial investigations conducted by the police has established that the feuding factions were both “squatters” as the land on which the station is situated belongs to the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA).
The police, he said however, will still take the matter to court for the true owner of the land to be established to ensure lasting peace.
Meanwhile, the bus terminal has been temprarily closed by the police.
