Veteran Journalist, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako has said the 10 opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) Regional Chairmen who have endorsed ex President Mahama’s as the party’s Flagbearer for the 2020 election are engaged in a crude form of politics.

According to him, the chairmen whom he described as ‘endangered species’ took that action which is a self interest move in order to better their chances of retaining their position in the impending NDC primaries.

At a meeting held Thursday, November 9, 2017 between the former leader and the Regional Chairpersons of the NDC party at Cantonments in Accra, the ten officials said Mr. Mahama must “consider the requests of the teeming supporters” and lead the party into contest in the next elections.

Their action has been roundly condemned by a section of the public including political analyst saying that move has the potential of dividing the party as they’ve effectively shut the door on other potential flagbearer aspirants.

Commenting on the matter on Joy FM’s News File show, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako who’s also the Editor-In-Chief of the New Crusading Guide Newspaper said the Regional Chairmen action is premature.

“These ten Regional Chairmen I think they are endangered species within the context of the NDC primaries which will be coming on, they see John Mahama as very popular within the NDC politics. They know the primaries are coming, their position are not secured, that’s the game they’re playing. So they’re tagging themselves to the John Mahama ticket to hope against hope perhaps, because some of them are casualties, they lost the elections so abysmally that right now their capacity is endangered that’s why they could do such a desperate thing.

“That’s so premature, why worry yourself? but that’s the game they’re plying. It’s to gather their own strength, regenerate some support for them. They’re not tactful, the two things they asked president Mahama to do…to embark on a thank you tour, wouldn’t it have been more appropriate if it came from the national leadership with a programme?

Abdul Malik Kweku Baako added that, the Regional Chairman by their action have not engaged in smart politics as their move has the potential of hurting the party.
