The Greater Accra Regional Organiser of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Anthony Nukpenu, has claimed that he confiscated a Toyota Land Cruiser V8 that was auctioned to a former Deputy Clerk of Parliament.

According to the outspoken politician, he took this action because he believes the vehicle was auctioned at an unreasonably low price to the former Deputy Clerk of Parliament, who purchased the car for GH¢13,000 and paid a duty of GH¢20,000.

In an interview with Mugabe Maase on TV XYZ, Anthony Nukpenu described the actions of the retired Parliamentary Service staff, whom he did not name, as a crime against the state.

"I went to retrieve a car. Here is the car document. This car was auctioned to someone who worked for the state and was retiring. A car that he had used for nine years—a Land Cruiser V8—was auctioned to him for GH¢13,000, and he paid a duty of GH¢20,000. This is the Customs document for the car. From the auction letter, it is stated that it was sold to him for GH¢13,000. This is the kind of crime we are committing against the state.

"When the man called me, I asked him, 'You said you are NDC; is this how you want Mahama to survive? This was the car allocated to you when you were Deputy Clerk of Parliament, and you retire and apply for it to be auctioned to you. Chief, is the GH¢13,000 you paid commensurate with the value of the car? Then you went and paid a duty of GH¢20,000... If Parliament feels they no longer have use for these cars, they should allocate them to district assemblies for work purposes."
