Director of Elections of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, has said claims that the EC’s proposed amendments to C.I. 91 were discussed, approved on 25th, March, 2020 according to John Boadu are false.

According to him, no such discussion was neither in the agenda of the said IPAC meeting nor was it captured in the records of the said meeting.

He quizzed how it would be possible for IPAC to discuss the issue of the proposed CI when it was already laid before parliament eight days before the IPAC meeting.

He describes John Boadu’s claims that the opposition NDC boycotted the last meeting of the Interparty Advisory Committee (IPAC) held on March 25, 2020 as an “intelligent lie”, insisting that meeting was a “concocted barefaced lie”.

The NDC accused the EC of flouting Regulation 2(3) of C.I. 91 which mandates the Commission to inform political parties on any proposals for the amendments to the Constitutional Instrument (C.I. 91) not later than 21 days before the first day of the national registration of voters.

Meanwhile the National Democratic Congress has sued the Electoral Commission at the Supreme Court over its decision to compile a new Voters’ register ahead of the 2020 elections.

The opposition party has consistently kicked against the decision by the election management body to compile a new Voters’ register but the EC has also maintained that it will proceed with its decision.
