NDC grieves over Amissah-Arthur's demise

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is mourning former Vice President Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur, whose death was announced on Friday at the age of 67.

Key Party leaders have been trouping to the residence of the former Vice President to console the widow, Matilda, and the entire family.

Among them are Mrs Betty Mould-Iddrisu, a national Vice Chairperson and former Attorney General and Minister of Justice; Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, a national Vice Chairman and former Minister of Local Government and Rural Development; and Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, Member of Parliament for Ellembelle and a former Energy Minister.

The rest are Mr Yaw Boateng Gyan, a former National Organiser of the NDC; Mr Henry Smith, a former Defence Minister and Dr Kwesi Botchway, a former Minister of Finance and Economic Planning.

Mr Alban Bagbin, Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, also led a parliamentary delegation to console the family of the late former Vice President.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mrs Mould-Iddrisu expressed shock at the demise of the former Vice President.

She described the late Amissah-Arthur as a wonderful man, who was one of Ghana’s finest brains; adding that “we will forever miss him”.

She also praised him for his humility and down to earth nature.

Mr Boateng Gyan recounted that he was with the late former Vice President on Thursday at his office to discuss matters concerning the NDC from 1130 hours to 1500 hours; and that, little did he know that the man would be passing away the next day.

He said the late Amissah-Arthur’s passing away was a big blow to the entire rank and file of the party.



He described him as a unifier and a very humble person; stating that “I have learnt a lot from him, about his way of meeting people and dealing with them”.

Mr Boateng Gyan gave thanks to the Almighty God for the life and ministry of the late former Vice President Amissah-Arthur.

Books of condolence have been opened at the residence of the late former Vice President and at the NDC’s headquarters for the public to express their sympathy with the family.

The NDC Headquarters was arrayed in red and there was an air of sombreness.
