NDC lost 36 seats to bickering, internal wrangling - Mahama spills more beans

Aside from the fact, there were diversions of campaign resources that played to the disadvantage of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the run-up to the 2016 elections, there are new issues cropping up as contributory factors to the party’s defeat.

Former President John Dramani Mahama has revealed that internal bickering, disunity and power struggle at the constituency level cost the party as many as 36 parliamentary seats including Savelugu Constituency in the 2016 elections.

“Like I said a few things went wrong…we were not united. Savelugu is one of them, there was no way we should have lost the Savelugu seat but it is just because we were not united. We had seen at least 36 of such constituencies where we could easily have won but we lost because we were not united”, he observed.

He expressed hope that the factions that existed prior to the 2016 elections have started working together in the interest of party unity and cohesion ahead of the 2020 polls which is barely two years away.

“I know that this time you have started working together to patch the differences. I have started receiving reports about what our new regional executives some of our MPs are all doing to help us come together so we win Savelugu back from the NPP’, he told branch executives in Savelugu.

According to the former president, Savelugu is in the belly of the elephant which requires an operation to ensure it is freed from the shackles of the elephant and bring under the umbrella.

“We can only do that if we are united”, cautioning against the campaign of insults urging them to welcome his other contenders and listen to what they have to say and that the final decision rests on them.
