Security personnel in Wa on Tuesday quelled a clash between staff of OA Transport in Wa and irate supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) who allegedly beat up one Yaw Okyere, a driver of the company.

Okyere who drove OA bus No GT 4645-12 from Accra to Wa on Tuesday conveyed some goods belonging to the NDC to be delivered at Wa.

The items were described as exercise books which had their covers embossed with pictures of President John Mahama.

On arrival in Wa on Tuesday morning, some NDC activists went to the station to take delivery of the items.

The driver was alleged to have demanded payment before handing over the goods to the NDC activists but they refused insisting that the items belonged to the government and there was no need to pay before collecting them.

The Ghana News Agency gathered at the OA station that Okyere insisted on collecting the money for the goods before he could release them.

This infuriated the NDC activists who accused the driver of sabotage as he was wearing a New Patriotic Party (NPP) cap.

They further accused the OA Transport of being NPP sympathizers and allegedly pounced on the driver and beat him up, while other drivers and onlookers who tried to intervene were also attacked.

The pandemonium that ensued attracted the attention of security forces nearby who went and quelled the fracas before sending the belligerents to the police station.

When contacted, DSP Daniel Kwantwi, Upper West Regional Crime Officer said the issue was being resolved and refused to give further details.
