Former first lady Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings has accused top executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of treating former president Jerry John Rawlings unfairly during the presidency of John Mahama.

Nana Konadu said people who were never members of the party but had managed to get themselves into positions of authority felt they had arrived and hurled insults at Rawlings. She said people "who obviously had no good upbringing" constantly abused Rawlings till respect for the former president was "nil".

The former first lady said despite the maltreatment of the Rawlings by the NDC, she never asked him to abandon the party.

Nana Konadu herself was a former vice-chairperson of the NDC, but she resigned to form her own party, the National Democratic Party.

She cited massive corruption within the NDC as her reason for leaving, saying that the party had abandoned its values of probity and accountability.

An unrelenting critic of John Mahama ahead of 2016 elections, Nana Konadu has expressed Joy at the victory of the New Patriotic Party in that election.

"I am happy there is a change...I am very happy...because you can't have a situation where we claim to be doing well, calling ourselves lower middle-income group, and [live] in a miserable situation," she said in a recent interview.
