The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has appealed to its supporters to remain calm and await for the announcement of the results of the elections by the Electoral Commission.

It says the party is confident of a resounding victory.

The party has directed that no Parliamentary candidate of the Party should accept results at the collation centres to be subjected to a recount unless it is by agreement of all the parties or by a court order.

This was contained in a press release signed by Kofi Portuphy, a leading NDC member and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Sunday.

The release said the NDC had taken note of the press conference held by the New Patriotic Party on December 8, 2012, where the NPP made statements to the effect that the Electoral Commission is the constitutional body mandated by the law to declare results of public elections.

It said the NDC understood the apprehension of the NPP and that no wonder the party at its latest press conference claimed its presidential candidate Nana Akufo-Addo was comfortably in the lead with projections of about four million votes counted, representing 40% of total ballots cast.

It said the NDC agreed entirely with the NPP on this score and that was why the party had never declared the results of any public election in Ghana and would not do so for the 2012 elections.

The release said it was on record that the NPP through Mr. Jake Obetsebi Lamptey, its current Chairman, declared the results of the 2004 presidential election at the Castle Gardens in favour of the NPP.
