A Political Science Lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, Dr. Amakye Boateng, has predicted defeat for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2020.

He argued strongly that the NDC, which is the largest opposition political party in the country, has not changed or introduced any new strategy that would attract the electorates after their 2016 embarrassing electoral defeat.

“The NDC is not winning election 2020”, Dr. Amakye Boateng, who is one of the finest political science lecturers in the country stated categorically during an interview with Nhyira FM in Kumasi recently.

He said the NDC, which the electorate rejected massively during the 2016 presidential and parliamentary elections, is still the same as the party has not done anything new to show that they indeed want to win power in 2020.

According to him, it takes a lot of hard work and strategies to enable a political party, especially those in opposition, to win presidential and parliamentary elections and he has not seen concrete efforts by the NDC to win power.

Dr. Amakye Boateng said attempts by former President John Dramani Mahama to lead the NDC as flag bearer during the 2020 elections is also not a good sign for the NDC in their efforts to recapture political power in 2020.

He said, “Politically, Mr. Mahama doesn’t have any significant contribution for Ghana again” and so his aggressive efforts to become the NDC presidential candidate for 2020 at all costs would eventually hurt the chances of the NDC in the polls”.

He rejected claims in some NDC quarters that the party’s supporters are pressurizing Mr. Mahama to lead them for the 2020 polls, insisting that it is rather Mr. Mahama who is hankering to lead the party as flag bearer again in 2020”.

Dr. Amakye Boateng stated emphatically that if the NDC allows Mr. Mahama to lead them as their flag bearer in 2020, President Akufo-Addo will easily lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to retain political power.

“The NDC does not pose any threat to Nana Akufo-Addo. In fact, Nana Akufo-Addo’s re-election in 2020 is very easy if the NDC presents Mr. Mahama as their presidential candidate”, the Political Science Lecturer stated.

He asserted, “Nana Akufo-Addo is far better than Mr. Mahama who presided over a Ghana, which was a soft state; his better days in politics are now over”.
