The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expressed its displeasure at the national broadcaster, GTV for deliberately refusing to cover its presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo on his campaign trail.
In a letter to the management of GTV and copied to the National Media Commission, the party’s Campaign Manager, Boakye Agyarko noted that despite the party’s special arrangement to have GTV news crew on the campaign trail with Nana Addo and the party independently sending footages to the station, the NPP flagbearer has still been denied news coverage.
The NPP also complained that GTV on the other hand has continuously covered campaigns of both President John Mahama, who is the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and his running-mate, Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur around the country on a daily basis.
The NPP in the letter accused the government of abuse of incumbency, and said “it is an obvious breach of the constitutional provision for fair coverage.”
This is the second time in months that the NPP is complaining about unfair coverage from GTV.
