The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has condemned pro-NPP vigilante group, Delta Force, for causing mayhem at a function at Tafo-Pankrono in the Ashanti Region over the weekend.

“The action of the young men is highly unacceptable, unjustifiable and unfortunate regardless of their reasons,” a press release issued by Mr Sammy Awuku, National Organiser of the NPP, said on Tuesday, 9 October 2018.

Describing the actions of the Delta Force members as unwarranted, the statement pointed out that: “The use of force and violence, particularly in internal party matters, is alien to the tenets of the New Patriotic Party and should have no place among us, especially under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who has been a strong advocate of the rule of law”.

The party further entreated the security agencies to bring the perpetrators to book and called on its leadership to take measures to forestall the lawless actions of the vigilante group.

“We call on the security agencies to deal decisively with this case without fear or favour. The party is equally putting in place measures to ensure that we nip these acts of violence in our internal party activities, in the bud. We warn any group of persons who might be harbouring any of such intentions to advise themselves since the party will not tolerate such behaviour and will cooperate with the police as we have always done,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, two members of the Delta Force have been arrested by the police in the Ashanti Region.

Richard Yaw Brefo, 51; and Paul Atta Onyinah, 49; were arrested at Tafo-Pankrono and charged with conspiracy to commit crime and rioting.

They are believed to be part of the group who disrupted a constituency meeting between the Member of Parliament for Tafo-Pankrono, Dr Anthony Akoto Osei and some party officials on Sunday, 7 October 2018.

The aggrieved young men chased out the Minister of Monitoring and Evaluation for failing to fulfill promises made to them ahead of the 2016 elections.

The motorbike-riding thugs destroyed chairs arranged for the meeting as they stormed the venue.

The minister and those at the meeting had to run for their dear lives in the melee.

The macho men indicated that the MP made several promises to them ahead of the 2016 elections but has so far failed to fulfill them. They claimed they were used to protect ballot boxes during the polls.

The angry jobless youth said the lawmaker no longer picks their calls despite the promises he made them while in opposition.

The young men noted that they stormed the meeting to express their anger against the minister for the failed promises.
