Embattled National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Paul Afoko insists he is still recognised as the Chairman by the majority of a party executives, despite the fact that he has been stripped of his position.

Mr Afoko was suspended in October 2015 after the party’s disciplinary committee upheld a letter from the National Council of Elders of the party requesting that Mr. Afoko be suspended until after the 2016 election.

He was accused of breaching the party’s rules and regulations in the matter of an alleged secret account managed by some party executives including now acting chairman Freddie Blay.

But he told 3FM’s Alfred Ocansey Thursday that the Party executives are in constant touch with him, saying “all the regions, polling station executives, constituency executives, regional executives are constantly interacting with me”.

According to him, some of these executives run to him for counsel whenever they have issues within the party at their various levels.

“They call me chairman and even lay their problems before me and we discuss them too,and all I tell them is that we should just pray for the court to give us justice and the rest will follow. Once we get justice the rest will follow,” he added.

He said his resolve to go to court is not for the court to order his reinstatement but rather to ensure that those he described as impediment in the party are stopped, saying “I didn’t go to the court to be restored as chairman but only went there to stop those people who have put impingements in my way from continuing to do so”.
