A Presidential Staffer, Kojo Adu Asare has said the largest opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is showing clear signs of tiredness campaigning on critical isues barely four months to the general elections in December.

According to him, the NPP is ‘holder on to straw’ and as a result has resorted to making ugly noises about trivial matters which should ordinarily not be an issue.

His comments come on the back of calls from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) demanding a probe into the car gift saga which President Mahama is alleged to have given to the founder and leader of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Madam Akua Donkor.

The outspoken politician stated on radio that President John Mahama had presented to her a mansion, located at Sakumono in Accra and two vehicles after the flagbearer of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, took his Tundra vehicle from her. Madam Akua Donkor disclosed that she picked the brand new cars from the store.

However the NPP has petitioned the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to investigate the case.

But Madam Akua Donkor, has since denied the gifts saying she lied over the two Pajero vehicles and the house because she wanted to spite the Progressive People’s Party flagbearer, Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom.

“I acquired those properties on my own, but I have intentionally credited Mahama for purchasing them for me because of what Nduom did to me some time ago. When Nduom took his Tundra Vehicle from me, he categorically told me I should go to Mahama to give me vehicles. That is why I’m doing this, she told Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM Monday.

However the Communications Director of the NPP, Nana Akomea has stated that Madam Akua Donkor’s u-turn on the matter rather makes the party’s call for a probe very necessary.

Yet Kojo Adu Asare, commenting on the matter on Asempa FM Monday stated that the NPP is only up to cheap politicking with an otherwise minor issue.

“NPP as a party is tired … they are fatigued. They try to thrive on trivial issues, things they don’t put in effort to get, they make so much noise about. As a party you busy yourself responding to such baseless claims by Akua Donkor. You have to work harder than this; you can’t win elections with things like this. The NPP must let Ghanaians know that they are working for something, and stop the cheap politicking.”
