Member of Parliament for Sagnarigu, Alhaji A.B.A Fuseini, has described the NPP as a party which touts half-baked achievements because they barely have any to pride in. According to him, the NPP administration, in an effort to desperately impress Ghanaians, chance at the slightest opportunity to promote ‘premature’ projects.

“This government is bereft of achievements so any small thing they think that they can tout, they’ll blow it even before it matures”, he said.

Speaking on government’s pledge to reduce electricity tariffs as announced by Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta in the 2018 budget statement, he said the move was a symbol of ‘crass lawlessness’.

According to him, government had no right to present such an announcement before the public without conferring with the appropriate institution in charge of electricity tariffs; the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) to ensure that due process is followed.

Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta during his reading of the 2018 budget statement revealed that government is working on a number of interventions to reduce electricity tariffs in the country; a 13 percent cut is what was projected by the minister on Wednesday November 15.

But Alhaji Fuseini, condemning the move said, “The sweetness of the pudding is not in the aroma, it is in the eating…that is part of the crass lawlessness of this government, this government has a penchant for infringing the law, we all know there is a body constitutionally mandated to handle electricity tariffs which is the PURC, the Minister said that even the proposals haven’t been submitted to the PURC, why should you come and announce something you are even yet to submit proposals for?....the food is still on the fire and you are already salivating yourself to death…”, he said.

He argues that government overstepped their boundaries by performing the responsibility of the PURC.

“Wait till it goes to the PURC, let the PURC as an independent body take that decision and then it becomes….and even when they take that decision they will have to announce not government, so government has no business, it is a crass act of lawlessness for the government not to even write to the PURC and come before Parliament to announce this lawless proposal they are talking about, it is lawless in the extreme”, he stated.

Alhaji Fuseini accused the NPP administration of ‘overhyping’ their Free SHS policy when there are equally important challenges in the country that have not yet been tackled.

“You think that Ghanaians are only going to live on Free SHS? Ghanaians want roads, Ghanaians want health facilities, Ghanaians want educational facilities, Ghanaians want improvement in their neighbourhoods, Ghanaians want electricity flow to be convenient for their businesses, Ghanaians want over 100 things so if you single out Free SHS and when they ask you to come and build roads you say ‘I’ve done SHS’, when they ask you to build hospitals you say ‘I’ve done SHS’, when they ask you to build villages you say ‘I’ve done SHS’”.
