As Members of Parliament are up in arms with government over the latter's inability to honour statutory payments to some state institutions for nearly a year now, the Women’s Organizer of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Madam Anita De Sousa, is laying blame at the doorstep of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

She avers that NPP caused the current economic recession in the country for challenging the 2012 general elections in court, and battling the legitimacy of John Dramani Mahama's presidency for some nine months.

"...the court case drove investors and donors away from the country since they were confused regarding how things will pan out in the country...," Anita De Sousa said on OkayFM.

She, however, slammed those accusing the NDC government of failing to halt the decline in economic growth, saying “government would have worked assiduously to raise enough revenue to pay the statutory bodies, but then it (government) was dragged to court on a frivolous and selfish account to halt every business for 9 months”.

"...government's failure to pay the statutory bodies and the economic depression of the country should be blamed on NPP for taking the government to court for 9 months for some selfish reasons because they (NPP) could not win the 2012 presidential elections,” she added.

Anita De Sousa further asserted that monies which should have been used to pay MPs Common Fund as well as honouring statutory payments to some state institutions were channeled towards settling GTV debts for loss of revenue incurred during the live telecast of the court proceedings.

"...NPP created this economic mess because they left office with so much debt that needed to be paid to the GETFund, road contractors and other bodies which worked under the NPP administration for 8 years...NPP denied President Mahama’s government the freedom to work hard to pay the debts they (NPP) incurred by taking the government to court to destroy every chance to revamp the economy,” she claimed.
