NPP wins Sissala East Constituency seat

Mr Abass Ridwan Dauda, a 33-year-old broadcaster and businessman has won the Sissala East Constituency Parliamentary seat for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Mr Ridwan Dauda shockingly polled 8,811 votes representing 34.55 per cent of valid votes cast to beat his closest rival Mr Kanton Kingsley Kasim of the People's National Convention (PNC) who polled 8,015 votes.

Hajia Alijata Sulemana Gbentie, the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for the Constituency and the only female Member of Parliament (MP) in the whole of the Upper West Region polled 7,846 votes representing 30.77 per cent of the valid votes cast.

Madam Abiba Fidelia Mohammed of the Convention People's Party (CPP) polled 95 votes; Mr Namuru Tahiru of the United Front Party (UFP) polled 93 votes and Mr Abdul-Barri Jaasu Zakaria of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP) polled 75 votes.

Total voter population in the Sissala East Constituency stands at 33,557 across the 81 polling stations; total valid votes cast 24,935; rejected ballots 566 and percentage turnout was 77.68 per cent.

For the Presidential, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo of the NPP polled 11,559 votes representing 45.29 per cent of valid votes cast to beat his closest rival, President John Dramani Mahama of the NDC who also polled 10,466 votes.

Mr Ivor Kwabena Greenstreet of the CPP obtained 90 votes, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings of the National Democratic Party (NDP) polled 132 votes, and Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom of the Progressive People's Party (PPP) also obtained 114 votes.

The rest are Mr Edward Nasigri Mahama, 1,996 votes with Mr Jacob Osei Yeboah, an independent candidate also polling 397 votes.

The voting process was very peaceful in the constituency.
