Paa Kwesi Nduom, Flag bearer of Progressive People’s Party in the 2O12 general election, has charged Catholic priests to understand the spiritual needs of members.
This, he said, would facilitate the counselling services they offer to increase the faith of their congregation in the Lord.
Dr Nduom, who described himself as a staunch Catholic faithful, said the media network he had established across the country are available to the church to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ free of charge and entreated the priests to take advantage, to win more souls for Christ.
He said Catholic fathers are shepherds who must understand the needs of their flock and asked them to get closer to their members and offer them direction in life in order not to be led astray.
Dr Nduom was speaking as a special guest of honour at the 13th Biennial Congress of the National Union of Ghana Diocesan Priests of the Catholic Church in Takoradi.
He urged the priests to join his crusade for free compulsory basic education for all children in the country.
He said education offers an opportunity for individuals to explore their full potentials.
He said although he was not from a wealthy family, education had propelled him to greater heights in life and asked any political party that would govern this country, to take the issue of education seriously in order to turnaround the fortunes of the country.
The four-day event, brought together more than 5,OOO Catholic priests across the country, which was held on the theme: ”Pastoral Challenges to the Family in the context of the New Evangelisation: the Role of the Diocesan Priest.”
He promised to construct a classroom block for Archbishop Porter Girls’ Senior High School, which hosted the Catholic priests’ national congress, in honour of his wife, who is a former student of the school.
