The chairman of the National Peace Council, Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Asante, has called on Ghanaians to be peaceful before, during and after the forthcoming presidential and parliamentary elections.

“It’s the responsibility of all to ensure there is peace and calm during this period,” Rev. Prof Asante said on Monday on the Morning Starr.

“I’ll plead with all political parties to speak to their supporters to comport themselves,” he added.

Prof. Asante’s comments were in reaction to the mayhem witnessed in front of the house of the Presidential nominee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Sunday afternoon.

Supporters of the ruling party who were on a health walk clashed with the bodyguards, after the two groups hurled insults at each other. The chaos escalated resulting in gunshots and pelting of stones among the irate followers.

The police, however, moved in swiftly to restore order and to prevent further degeneration. Both the NDC and NPP have accused each other of provoking the attacks.

In an interview with host of Morning Starr, Robert Nii Arday Clegg Snr. on Monday, the chairman of the Peace Council described Sunday’s incident as unhealthy, which must be condemned by all.

“We have just one Ghana, we need to manage our tensions properly so as to guarantee peace for all,” pleaded Prof. Asante, assuring that the council will lead that campaign.
