National Youth Chair of Afrikania Mission, Fafafe Agbodzi-Sewornu has criticized the Akufo-Addo government for the poor show of interest in the things regarding the traditional religion.

The Afrikania Mission, a neo-traditional movement which promotes African traditional religion, nationalism and Pan-Africanism, described this government as a failure, as far as issues of the traditionalist are concerned.

Taking their turn on GhanaWeb’s #SayItLoud, the National Youth Chair of the Mission noted that apart from the country’s first president, Dr Kwame Nkrumah and former President Rawlings, who were keen in the activities of the Afrikania Mission and by extension traditionalists and culture, succeeding administrations have not been very considerate in that regard.

“…respect for tradition, apart from Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah’s regime, the next regime that was quite close was Rawlings. But the rest have failed, I can tell you; because traditionalists are there and the ministers go to them. But now, the ministers are in their officers saying the traditionalists should come… Who needs the other?," Fafafe quizzed.

He explained ministers of the current administration are virtually inaccessible whenever they attempted to engage them.

Mr. Agbozi-Sewornu’s complaints come on the back of his outfits call for a national holiday for the Traditional religion.

According to the Afrikania Mission, it is unfair for two of the main religions in the country, Christianity and Islam to have national holidays attributed to them leaving the Traditional religion out.

The group proposed that a special day known as the National Libation Day should be adopted to be observed across the nation as reverence and commemoration for all the ancestors who through their blood and toil won the country it’s freedom

They posited that the country was being bedevilled with various problems such as sanitation, corruption, and more recently, the Coronavirus because government had sidelined traditionalists who are custodians of the land.
