No more fan clubs, join NDC if you want my return – Mahama

Former President John Mahama has said he would not tolerate the formation of fan clubs in his name, in his bid to recapture power from the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2020.

Mahama who’s battling 12 others including the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, former Trades and Industry Minister, Ekow Spio Garbra and former Board Chairman of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), Professor Joshua Alabi for the opportunity to lead the NDC into the 2020 elections told the party’s delegates in Lambushie, Upper West region that: “We are discouraging voluntary groups.”

“And so as much as possible the voluntary groups youth for something…‘Market women for Mahama’, Witches for Mahama’, ‘Watchmen for Mahama’…I mean everything for Mahama must stop. If you want Mahama join the party, work with the executives and deliver victory so that we come back into office,” he added.

Mahama who said during his tour of the Central region that God allowed the humiliating defeat he suffered at the hands of President Akufo-Addo in 2016 for Ghanaians to have the chance to compare and contrast the performance of his administration with the current one said his comeback would provide him with an opportunity to “right the wrong of the past.”

“The 2020 election presents our party, the NDC, with a great opportunity to offer yet again, visionary leadership driven by a commitment to create opportunities for all our people and not just a few,” he said.
