Notable personalities who welcomed Vice President back after health recovery

Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, returned to the country on Thursday, May 22, 2025, after recovering from a recent illness that kept her away from public duties for several weeks.

It would be recalled that on Sunday, March 30, 2025, the Spokesperson to the President and Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, announced that the Vice President was receiving treatment at the University of Ghana Medical Centre due to a sudden illness that occurred after work on Friday, March 28, 2025.

She subsequently took a medical leave and sought treatment abroad.

Following her return to the country, some notable personalities have welcomed her back.

President John Dramani Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama on Thursday, May 22, 2025, warmly welcomed Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang back to the country at the Jubilee House.

During a briefing at the presidency, President Mahama expressed relief at the return of the vice president, stating that he personally missed her presence, as her absence had complicated his duties, including a trip to Togo that sparked threats of impeachment from the opposition.

"I particularly missed you, because even travelling out of the country has been difficult. They threatened to impeach me just for going to Togo while you were away," he said, prompting laughter in the background.

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia

Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has also extended a warm welcome to Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang.

"A warm welcome back home to Vice-President Professor @NJOAgyemang. @SBawumia and I thank God for your speedy recovery and wish you all the best as you resume work," Dr Mahamudu Bawumia said in a brief post on his X page.

Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo

Former National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, has also extended his heartfelt congratulations to Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang on her return.

In a Facebook post, he thanked God for the Vice President's safe return and expressed his well wishes.

“Grateful to God for the safe return of H.E. Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang from her medical vacation. It was a joyous and uplifting moment welcoming her home at the airport yesterday. Her presence, strength, and unwavering commitment to service continue to inspire us all,” he wrote.
