The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has risen to the defense of former President John Dramani Mahama saying there is absolutely nothing wrong with any party stalwart including him visiting members at the various wards, polling stations, constituencies and regions.

Deputy General Secretary, George Lawson who was responding to concerns raised by a youth group of the party accusing former the President of flouting some regulations of the party’s constitution by secretly campaigning ahead of presidential primaries, said he has committed no crime with his grassroots visits.

“There is nothing wrong with the former President visiting party people. The concerns of the group have not been brought to our attention but I do not think they have a case”, he revealed on Joy News.

Mr George Lawson questioned under which provision a former leader of the party must seek clearance from the party leadership before embarking on visits to the grassroots.

But leader of a group calling itself the Action Movement, Kodzo Hamenya Keglo insists the former president is violating some regulations in the party’s constitution and must be called to order.

“The former president is disrespecting the constitution of the party and engaging in secret campaigns. It is the same thing that happened in the 2016 and led to the party’s disunity because some people felt the processes were compromised in his favour”, he said

He however warned that if he does not stop engaging in such acts, it could further fuel the disaffection in the party and should he emerge victorious, the others who contested with him may not be willing to support him.
