A Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress Koku Anyidoho has said the New Patriotic Party will not be allowed to declare results in the 2016 elections.

According to him, the Electoral Commission is the only constitutionally mandated body to declare electoral results in the country and will therefore be improper if any other body is allowed to declare the results.

The comments come after the campaign manager of the New Patriotic Party Peter Mac Manu told an NPP gathering in the Western region that the Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition will declare its own results in the November polls.

“...The IGP cannot stop us. Whether you are the Electoral Commission, whether you are a police or security officer, whether you are a polling agent, whether you are a chief, you cannot stop NPP from declaring results,” he said.

Reacting to the comments on Accra-based Okay FM, the NDC firebrand said the NPP campaign manager must admit that he erred and apologise for the statements.

“If after careful reflection Mac Manu has realised that he made a mistake, he should just admit and apologise.

“The truth is that the EC is the only body allowed to declare results and so the NPP will not be allowed to declare the results. Let’s not forget that they have done it before. In 2004 , the late Jake Obitsebi Lamptey did it but this time around that will not happen because the law does not allow it,” he said.
