Paramount Queen Mother of Goaso, Nana Afia Serwaa I
Paramount Queen Mother of Goaso, Nana Afia Serwaa I, has cautioned young women pursuing nursing training in the area against engaging in intimate relationships with tricycle (pragya) riders.
According to her, the growing trend among some trainees, who engage in such relationships for free transport, sometimes as low as GH¢2, could derail their education and future prospects.
Nurses urged to embrace generosity and mentorship
“The young women who come here to pursue nursing training in Goaso are engaging in intimate relationships with tricycle (pragya) riders in exchange for free transport, just to avoid paying fares,” she lamented in a video shared by asaase radio on Facebook on Thursday, March 19, 2026.
She stressed that such conduct could have serious consequences, including unplanned pregnancies that may affect their education.
“They have been brought here to pursue education, so if they engage in such relationships and get pregnant, they bring disgrace to their parents. All the efforts and fees invested in their education would go to waste,” she expressed concern.
Nana Afia Serwaa I therefore urged the trainees to remain focused on their academic goals.
“I am advising them to avoid such relationships with pragya riders or giving themselves out to men, and instead focus on their education to excel,” she stated.
The Queenmother also touched on efforts to address social challenges in the community, particularly drug abuse among the youth.
She explained that a taskforce has been set up to identify and counsel affected individuals.
“I have set up a taskforce that rounds up young men involved in drug use so we can advise them. We have realised that this is often due to unemployment, so, sometimes I assist them in finding jobs,” she noted.
Additionally, she raised concerns about the presence of some foreign nationals allegedly engaging in indecent acts within the township.
“I have also observed that some Nigerian female nationals have been brought into the township and are engaging in indecent acts. I have spoken against this and advised those responsible, because these days people carry various diseases that can easily be transmitted,” she revealed.
