OLA College of Education pacesetters for quality teachers - Education Minister

The Minister of Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has praised the Our Lady of Apostle (OLA) College of Education as the best college of education for churning out quality teachers in the country.

He was particularly full of praise for Principal of the College, Reverend Sister Elizabeth Amoako-Arhen for transforming the institution which is one of the premier colleges that teaches Science and Mathematics elective programmes in the country.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh who was special guest of honour at the 12th annual congregation observed that the college is a pacesetter among its peers and announced 100% full scholarship for the overall best student, Ms. Mavis Owusu Gyamfi

He implored on graduates to live exemplary lives by being, creative, honest, active and eager to learn more not just from others but from experienced teachers.

“President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo keeps telling me, asking me and directing me that Napo our whole thing that we are doing about education sectors of best teacher and quality teachers because without the good teacher there is nothing call education” he added.

The Minister announced plans to complete the abandoned infrastructure projects including a six-unit Early Childhood lecture halls, Science laboratory and ultra-modern library as well as the construction of deplorable roads within the college to boost academic education in the country.

On her part, the Principal of the College who doubles as the President of Colleges of Education in the country, Reverend Elizabeth Amoako-Arhen reminded the graduates of government’s initiative of teacher’s licensing in the effort to professionalize teaching as a noble career in the country.

“I dare say that, for those of you who have passed licensure exams, your provisional license puts you above those who do not hold such license” she challenged.

Ola College of Education is an all-female Catholic Institution founded by the Catholic Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Apostles in 1924 at Saint Mary’s Convent in Cape Coast.

The College since its inception has run different initial teacher education programmes at different times in the area of its academic and professional development to meet the needs and demands of the country.
