Edward Koranteng is the former Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Income Investment Fund
A former Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF), Edward Koranteng, is reported to have been prevented from taking an international flight out of the country.
According to a citinewsroom.com report on July 30, 2025, the incident occurred on July 29, 2025, when Koranteng was allegedly stopped at the Kotoka International Airport after being intercepted by immigration officials.
The report further stated that immigration officials, upon discovering that Koranteng had attempted to travel out of the country without clearance from the Office of the Special Prosecutor, prevented him from boarding the flight.
The former MIIF boss had been placed on a travel watch list — commonly known as a stop list — due to the ongoing investigation, according to citinewsroom.com sources.
Koranteng has reportedly been taken into the custody of the Ghana Immigration Service for further actions.
Background
The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) in February 2025, launched an investigation into alleged financial irregularities involving officials of the Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF), including its former Chief Executive Officer, Edward Nana Yaw Koranteng.
According to the OSP, the probe is part of a broader effort to uncover potential mismanagement and misconduct within state institutions.
Though details of the investigation remain undisclosed, the OSP stated that it is scrutinising transactions and financial dealings within MIIF during Edward Koranteng’s tenure.
