Okyenhene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori panyin, Paramount Chief of Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area may issue a directive in the coming days to ban all illegal mining activities, popularly called galamsey in the Akyem enclave, kasapafmonline.com can confirm.

Chiefs forming the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council are billed to meet today, Thursday, March 30, 2017, over the menace.

The debilitating effects of the activities of illegal mining has reached alarming levels in Akyem land, following this the Okyenhene is likely to issue ultimatum to his sub-chiefs to flush out all illegal miners from the area.

He has in the past taken up the crusade to speak against the activities of illegal mining in the country, but many wondered why his words were not backed by action as his own backyard was not spared from the devastating effects of such illegal operations.

At the national level, the Lands and Natural Resources Minister has issued a three-week ultimatum to illegal miners to halt their activities as government steps up the fight against illegal miners.

John Peter Amewu has warned that all illegal miners who fail to stop their activities would face harsh penalties for breaking the laws.
