Ghana’s Auditor-General, Mr Daniel Yao Domelevo, has condemned the politics of comparative mediocrity that is practised in the country.

The anti-graft A-G told Blessed Sogah on Class91.3FM’s ‘State of the Nation’ programme aired on Wednesday, 9 October 2019 that: “Our system [of politics] has assumed partisan positions to the neglect of the national interest”.

“It’s very worrying where we can all see the truth and because of partisan positions, we neglect it”, Mr Domelevo said.

He illustrated his concern thus: “The same thing that ‘A’ objected to when he was in opposition, he comes into government and he does the same thing. And the thing that ‘B’ was defending when he was in government, he goes into opposition and immediately it doesn’t work”.

“My expectation and prayer”, he said, “Is that we reach a position where irrespective of these partisan political positions, we can identify a thief and call him a thief; corruption and call it corruption; mismanagement and call it mismanagement; instead of: ‘Oh, but even if you talk about me being corrupt, I’m better-corrupt than you; you’re more corrupt; you were stealing in billions, I’m in millions, so, I’m a better thief”.

“That is the type of politics that we are doing, instead of us saying that this is our government but the guy has misbehaved, he must be taken on. This is what I’m expecting for this country”, he said.
