2012 standard bearer of the Progressive People’s Party, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, has labeled leaders of Ghana as “wicked” for not implementing the free compulsory universal basic education (FCUBE) system that will give every Ghanaian child the right to enjoy free education from kindergarten to senior high school level.

According to him, Ghana has enough wealth to make sure every child gets the right to be educated for free.

“It’s because of wickedness that is why our leaders are not giving the chance for every child to go through the free and compulsory education from primary to senior secondary school,” he said.

Dr. Nduom made this observation on Asem Yi Di Ka, a flagship programme of Amasaman TV (ATV) in Accra, Tuesday March 8, 2016.

Dr. Nduom could not fathom why leadership of this country was unwilling to implement an act which is entrenched in the constitution.

According to him, former Presidents, Jerry John Rawlings and the sitting President, John Dramani Mahama all benefited from the free compulsory universal basic education.

“Our former President, Jerry John Rawlings, back in the day benefitted from free education and was enrolled from primary to senior high school, even the current President, John Mahama, also benefitted from the same free education. So why can’t we implement this for our younger generations?,” he asked.

In his estimation, the framers of the 1992 constitution saw the relevance of every child getting free and compulsory education, hence introduced that provision to give every child a bright future to help build the nation.

He said but out of wickedness “our leaders have avoided giving every child the right to free education, and instead are using the money on unnecessary things.”

“If not for wickedness why will Ghana carry such a huge amount of money to Woyome for free,” he stated.
