Eligible political parties participating in this year’s general election would receive the voters’ register and a list of all polling stations by the end of next week, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Mrs Charlotte Osei, has announced.
She said though the polling stations’ list would be made available to the political parties today, the voters’ register would be ready latest by next week due to some technical challenges the EC has been facing.
The register, she pointed out, contained about 15,700,000 names, including 29,000 newly registered voters who would participate in this year’s elections.
Mrs. Osei revealed this when she met members of the Ashanti Regional House of Chiefs. The meeting was chaired by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
According to Mrs Osei, the polling stations’ list would also be made available on the EC’s website and would also be made available to security agencies to ensure transparency in the electoral process.
Mrs. Osei, who answered questions from members of the Ashanti Regional House of Chiefs on the EC’s preparedness towards this year’s election, disclosed that the final register was prepared after receiving final rulings.
