The Ghana Police Service has provided an update on the attempted robbery in Labone, during which two suspected robbers were shot dead by police officers.
In a post shared on X on Thursday, August 13, 2026, the Police detailed how officers apprehended one suspect following the operation.
According to the statement, the attempted robbery occurred at about 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, August 13, 2026, in the vicinity of GCB Bank, Ecobank, and Zenith Bank in Labone.
The Police explained that upon arriving at the scene, officers arrested a Nigerian national, Augustine Okechukwu Maazi, who is currently in custody assisting with investigations.

“Upon sighting the Police, one of the vehicles sped off in an attempt to escape. The Police gave chase and arrested suspect Augustine Okechukwu Maazi. The other occupant, however, managed to escape. The robbers in the second vehicle also attempted to flee while firing shots.
“Suspect Augustine Okechukwu Maazi is in custody assisting with investigations, while the bodies of the deceased suspects have been deposited at the morgue for preservation, identification and autopsy,” the statement said.
Two 'gunned down' as police foil robbery attack at Labone
The Police further disclosed that two vehicles were recovered at the scene of the attempted robbery.
According to the statement, a Toyota Highlander with registration number GS-1434-18 and a Hyundai Tucson with registration number GS-7915-17 were retrieved during the operation.
“The Police engaged them in a shootout, resulting in the death of two suspects. Police also recovered two vehicles, a Toyota Highlander with registration number GS-1434-18, a Hyundai Tucson with registration number GS-7915-17, and a blow pistol,” the statement added.
