Police arrest two over alleged lynching

The Savannah Regional Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the alleged lynching of a young man at Daboya in the North Gonja District of the Savannah Region.

The suspects have been identified as Adjei Abdulai, 25, a carpenter, and Issah Mahama, 22, a student.

According to a police statement dated August 26, 2026, the arrests followed investigations into the incident, which was captured in a video circulating on social media.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the victim, identified as Yibonwura, was allegedly attacked and severely assaulted after being accused of stealing sheanuts,” the statement said.

He reportedly died from injuries sustained during the assault.

The two suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations.

Police said a manhunt is underway for a third suspect who is currently at large.

Investigations are continuing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and identify all persons connected to the alleged crime.

The Police Command said it remains committed to ensuring that all those found culpable are brought to justice.
