Police foil robbery attempt

Accra, Oct.24, GNA - The Osu Police on Tuesday foiled an operation by three suspected robbers including a 16-year-old boy, who attempted to snatch mobile phones from two persons at Osu Kuku Hill area. The suspected robbers are Frank Elorm Appau, 23, Adu Kwabena 22, all taxi drivers and a 16-year-old car washer.

They were said to be have used a yellow and wine Tico taxi with registration number GR 1476 X with an inscription "Onyame Nti" during their operation.

Items found in the taxi were an axe, a toy gun and a cutlass. Briefing the GNA on Tuesday, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Mr James Annor, Osu District Police Commander, said at about 0100 hours on Tuesday the Osu Police on their usual patrol in and around Osu bumped into two men, who were being chased at Osu Kuku Hill area when they were returning from a night club.

ASP Annor said one of the two men, whose name was being withheld, alleged that he was fidgeting with his phone when the suspects drove past them.

However, the Commander said, the suspects reversed to where the two men were but on suspicion that they might be attacked, they also took to their heels.

The men, ASP Annor said they bumped into the Police patrol team and narrated the incident to them.

The Police chased the occupants of the cab and apprehended them. When the car was searched a cutlass, a toy pistol and cutlass were retrieved. ASP Annor said the Police began investigations into the matter and urged the public to be wary of such acts.

He appealed to any member of the public, who might have fallen victim to the suspects' activities to report to the Police at Osu.
