Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Alex Quainoo, Western Regional Police Commander, on Friday advised motorists to ensure that their vehicles are in good condition before plying the roads.

He gave the advice when briefing the press at Takoradi about a road safety exercise mounted by Police in Sekondi-Takoradi on Thursday, during which 125 private and commercial old and defective vehicles were impounded.

DCOP Quainoo said defective vehicles are dangerous to their drivers, as well as the general public who have to understand that the Police enforce road safety to protect life and property.

He said 68 of the vehicles were impounded at Takoradi and the rest at Sekondi during the day long exercise.

DCOP Quainoo said the drivers of the vehicles would be put before court and the Police would make sure that defects on the vehicles are corrected before they go back on the road.

He said about one and half months ago, 163 drivers were arrested in a similar operation and the Regional Police Command decided not to prosecute them and only asked the drivers to fix the defects on their vehicles.

DCOP Quainoo said this time round, drivers whose vehicles have been impounded will be prosecuted because it is the duty of the Police to ensure that people ride in vehicles in safety.
