Police protection for flagbearers motivated by SA 3 saga - Blay

Acting National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay, has asserted that the brouhaha surrounding the importation and deportation of the three former police officers from South African has created the awareness on the need to provide security for top politicians in the country.

The Police invited various politicians for a dialog over the need to provide four police guards to flagbearers and their running mates. The police guards will provide a 24 -hour protection for the politicians. The move follows the controversy surrounding the arrest and subsequent deportation of the South Afrivans.

Speaking on Kwame Adinkra’s AM Drive on Atinka FM Tuesday, Freddy Blay said the public got sensitized about the need to protect politicians especially flagbearer through the controversy.

He admitted that the meeting was useful and expressed the hope that the outcome would be useful.

Speaking on the same issue, the General Secretary of the Conventions People’s Party (CPP), Nii Armah Akomfreh, said the move was in the right direction and that it was heart-warming to note that the police would bear the cost .

Head of Public Relations at the Ghana Police Service, Superintendent Cephas Arthur, opined that the practice of protecting flagbearers was introduced in 2008.

He said the same process was repeated in the 2012 presidential and parliamentary elections.
