Police recover 10 vehicles stolen from the Netherlands

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has intensified its crackdown on transnational vehicle crime, leading to the recovery of 10 stolen vehicles in Accra through close collaboration with international partners.

Addressing the media in Accra, Director-General of the Police CID, COP Lydia Donkor, said vehicle theft not only causes financial loss to victims but also undermines Ghana’s international reputation and fuels other organised criminal activities.

COP Donkor said that between September 15 and September 17, 2025, the CID, working alongside the Netherlands Embassy and Digitpol — a security company that collaborates with the Netherlands Police — successfully tracked and retrieved vehicles trafficked into Ghana.

The operation led to the recovery of eight Toyota RAV4s and two Toyota CH-Rs, all of which had been reported stolen from the Netherlands. The vehicles were located in parts of Accra, including Kantamanto, Nima and Cantonments.

Police say the breakthrough underscores the importance of international cooperation in fighting vehicle-related crimes.

The Ghana Police Service also cautioned the public to be vigilant when purchasing vehicles locally, urging prospective buyers to:

Demand proof of ownership from the country of origin.

Verify vehicle details with INTERPOL Accra before completing transactions.

“The Service remains committed to protecting the public from falling victim to such crimes and assures that collaborations with international partners will be sustained and intensified,” the Police said in a statement.
